Why is the Flight Chaplain important to me? On my first "real" scene flight as a rotor wing RN, I found myself doing all of my procedures - in a field, with tons of bystanders, on a police officer in cardiac arrest. After miraculously transporting our patient from the scene to the Operating Room, I was overwhelmed with so many emotions. I felt elated, sad, terrified, exhilarated, stressed...you name it. My first phone call was to our Flight Chaplain, who we were so fortunate to have. The Flight Chaplain listened and understood and helped me be at peace. I think that it speaks volumes that she was the one I turned to. It’s so wonderful to have the reassurance that someone always has your back.
