Why a Flight Chaplain Matters To Me
|
When a flight chaplain first came to a former program I worked at, I was very skeptical. "Why do we need that? Why don't we spend the money on equipment?" I said. Well I had to insert my foot in my mouth. I found myself 6 yrs into my career, burned out, angry, divorced, making others miserable, and found no meaning in my career choice. My years of training and experience were ready to walk out the door and never look back. Our flight chaplain helped me expose some ugly things that allowed me to feel and heal. Now I work at another flight program that does not have a flight chaplain and again see the burn out, the high's, the low's, personal lives being torn apart, people just going through the motions, and I wish every program could have a flight chaplain. My personal experience demonstrates a flight chaplain saves careers and ultimately makes us all better care givers.
