CONTROL IN THE CHAOS. Emotional calm and mental focus are both critical to functioning in chaotic transport situations.  Achieving them is not always easy.

A.  Description. Air medical transport often requires crews to work in the worst of conditions under enormous stress.  In the midst of a traumatic event, it can be difficult to maintain mental or emotional control.  There are important steps crewmembers can take to gain clarity, control and focus in such moments.

B.  Outline. 1.  High adrenaline, and the chaos effect.  2.  Kronos vs. Kairos time.  3.  Six important steps crewmembers can take to achieve focus in the moment, and in the longer term.  4.  Stress when there aren't any flights.  Why it's exhuasting.  5.  Chronic, unaddressed stress and it's effects - short term, long term.  6.  Longer term solutions.  Emotional, physical and spiritual disciplines which can help  any crewmember become a more serene and focused member of the team.
